bill Moffatt I'm an MRI technologisthere at CMC
physics and math although there's not a
lot of it but there is some physics and
math on the exams you have to take to be
registered as far as the how the
machines operate the you know just how
the equipment works your basic high
school courses that get you into college
is really all you need
I did radiology school in medic school
in the army
or ivory enlisted for x-ray school and
it seemed like something you get to see
every patient pretty much that comes in
room and inpatient surgery pretty much
everybody comes to medical imaging since
we moved back here because we're my wife
and her from West Virginia so I went to
UC I was able to get a four-year degree
in two years I'm going to take you know
to have a bachelor's in radiologic
sciences we have patients scheduled
about every 30 minutes to an hour
depending on the length of their exam so
you're going to come in turn the scanner
on one make sure that all the
equipment's working you have to
interview each patient take care of them
them their experience as pleasant as you
can mother here at least a couple times
a day there's somebody that's that's not
comfortable going in the scanner and you
know we try there's there's some things
that you can try to do to make them as
comfortable or to lessen their anxiety

you can go CT scans you have ultrasound
MRI nuclear medicine and there's lots of
different environments if you like
excitement and traumas and stuff you
could work at general if you like you
know babies there's women's and
for like a craniotomy or if they're
planning radiation therapy
or something there's a very specific
protocol set up in the machine that will
take the images that lets them pinpoint
the exact you know place that they're
going to go in for surgery it's really
interesting as far as you see so many
different types of patients you get to
work with you know everything from a
sprained ankle to you know person who
has a brain tumor has a stroke and the
stuff that we can see nowadays in
medical imaging you know 10 or 15 years
ago was impossible and it looks like in
the future we're probably the near
future we're going to be able to see all
the way down to you know what areas of
the brain are not working as far as
patients that have a learning disability
or if you have a child that's not you
know that's not developing they're going
to be able to look and see okay what you
know specific area you know what neurons
are not working and you know hopefully
they'll be able to fix them MRI there's
there's a lot of 3d imaging that we can
do it's a MRIs probably more detailed
pictures than CT and especially when we
look at the patient's arteries we can
the heart with the 3d cardiac MRI now
you can basically the radiologist can
look at the heart from every possible
angle
